| Scales of Maat This is an exercise or spell you can perform when you are trying to determine the true "intention or purpose behind a proposition or situation". Cast a circle and invoke the Goddess Maat or Thoth. Visualize a pair of scales. On the left side, place an object that represents your problem or situation. On the right side, place the feather of Maat. Give the scales to Maat and wait for an answer. In the unlikely event that you don't receive and an immediate answer, the solution will surface in three days or three weeks. Don't forget to thank the deities. Close the circle.

| Moonstone Magick To see into the future, according to an ancient grimoire of the magickal arts, place a moonstone amulet in your mouth at night when the moon is full. Wear a ring of moonstone (dedicated to the love goddess Aphrodite) as amuletic jewelry to attract a soulmate, inspire tender passions, or to protect a love. Carry a moonstone in a charm bag to attract good luck or prevent nervousness. The powers of the moonstone (also known as the "stone of love") are extremely potent when it is worn or carried by persons born under the moon-ruled astrological sign of Cancer.

| Witch's Brew For Clairvoyance
Into a cauldron of boiling water, add a handful each of shredded laurel leaves, cinquefoil, and mugwort (3 herbs that have long been associated with the arts of divination and prophecy.) Cover with a lid, and boil for 13 minutes. Lift the lid of the cauldron and deeply inhale the vapors of the bubbling brew 3 times. Take a normal breath of air, and then once again deeply inhale the vapors 3 times. Repeat this for 3 minutes, and if you have allowed yourself to properly enter a psychic state, you may begin to receive prophetic visions, either in the form of pictures or symbols, or perhaps in a combination of the two.

| Potions For Dreams And Nightmares
To conjure forth prophetic dreams, drink an infusion of rose buds or saffron prior to going to sleep. It will not only facilitate the dreamwork, it will also enhance vividness and aid in the recall of the dream upon waking. To prevent nightmares from plaguing your sleep, Witches have long recommended drinking an infusion of vervain shortly before bedtime. (It is said that the magickal powers of vervain are at their greatest when the plant is gathered at Midsummer.) To preserve yourself from both nightmares and dreams, add a bit of juice from the lemon verbena to one cup of noncaffeinated tea or warm milk. Drink before you turn in for the night. (Incidentally, infusions of lemon verbena, which is ruled by the planet Mercury and the element of Air, are also good for purification rites and attracting the opposite sex!)

| Macharomancy
Many modern day Witches practice a form of macharomancy (the art and practice of divination through knives, swords, etc.) by placing a consecrated athame or dagger in the center of a circle bordered with letters and numbers. After asking the spirits a question, the athame or dagger is spun around in a spin-the-bottle fashion. Each time it stops, the letter or number its blade points to is written down. This continues until the answer is spelled out, often scrambled or in a foreign or ancient language such as Latin.

| Psychic Brew (For heightened awareness, and divination.) 3 whole cinnamon sticks, broken up 5 whole cloves 4 whole allspice 1 handful of fresh sage 1/4 cup chrysanthemum petals Enough spring water to cover by 2 inches. With a mortar and pestle, combine all ingredients except the spring water. Visualize your third eye opening, and your psychic awareness increasing. (The third eye area is in the middle of your forehead, and contains your psychic vision.) When the dry ingredients are combined, add the spring water. Add just enough water to cover your dry mixture by 1 inch. As you simmer this mixture over low heat, breathe in the aroma, and visualize your psychic abilities increasing. See yourself becoming more aware of the spirit world with every breath you take. Take in slow cleansing breaths, and release them gently, as you feel your awareness increase. Clear your mind, and open your heart. Say these words: "Psychic brew I call on thee........ Bring the spirits here to me. Behold my eyes the future near....... Take my soul to the past from here......" I usually say these words 3 times, and then end with: "By the power of 3 times 3, as I will it so mote it be!" You may of course, use your own words. Then you can either meditate, or use this as a prelude to divination. Simply follow the above steps, and use your favorite form of divination, ie, Tarot, Runes etc.

| Candle Flame Scrying On a Full Moon, prepare your altar with black cloth. Set upon it a purple, blue, or white candle. It is best to use either a votive or a pillar. Around this, lay oak leaves in a circle and place clusters of quartz and/or amythyst around or on top of the oak leaves. Ground and Center and Cast your Circle. Light the candle and say: Candle of Power Vision and light Open my eyes to the future this night. Gaze into the flame and empty your mind of extrenuous thought. Be patient and the future shall be seen. Don't stare into the flame, for this causes the eyes to become strained and may give you a headache...just gaze and they shall appear. Good Luck!

| Scrying Chant Scry, Scry, Scry for me, Open my eyes and let me see. Just a short chant to be used when attempting to scry by fire, water, incense, sand, crystal, mirror, and all other forms.

| Herb Scrying Get a small quantity of dried patchouly, mugwort or wormwood. Crumble the herb between your hands until it is finely diminished. Next, pour it into a small square pan (glass or ceramic). Light yellow candles and place the pan on your working area. Close your eyes, extend the index finger of your weak hand, and gently touch the center of the pan with its tip. Move it at random in the pan, shifting from one direction to another without conscious pattern. Keep this up for a few minutes. Now, remove your finger, open your eyes, and interpret the symbols you have just written in the herb. If desired, scrying incense can be burned during this rite. It may be repeated several times.

| To Find Out How Many Children You Will Have Items needed: 1 wedding ring 1 black piece of thread {someone has to do this ritual for you, as long as it is a female} Extend your right hand palm up, thumb out, Have the woman standing across from you. Tie the wedding ring in a square not to the end of the black thread, have the woman holding the thread tap the outside and inside of your palm {right and left sides} 4 times {so first the outside then the inside etc. Then she is to hold the thread with the ring on the end like a pendalum, over your palm and keep her arms still. If the ring begins to move in a circular motion it indicates a girl child , If the ring begins to move in a back and forth motion it indicates a boy child. Between each child you must let the ring rest on the palm then tap the ring again 4 times on the outside and inside of the palm. Repeat this process until the ring stops moving.

| Psychic Awareness Spell Put a cauldron of water on the alter. Light white candles and appropriate incense. Say: Open the door to my inner life; Reveal the past to me. Open the door to my inner life, That my way may be made free. Send me the light of your cosmic fire; Make my path bright clear. Give me a sign, that's no will of mine, To show me your presence is here. Follow this by meditation and divination with the cauldron. Sometimes this must be done for several nights leading up to the Full Moon before your 'Inner Doors' begin to open.

| Divination Spell Have a chalice of pure water on the alter, along with tarot cards, runes, or any other divination tool. Place a pillow next to the alter, that will be comfortable enough to sit on for at least a half hour. With the wand, slowly encircle your chosen divination tool three times and say: Silver Huntress, Enchanted Moon Lady, Mistress of Mysteries and of the future. Grant me your vision, And the powers of the Moon. To read my future, And know what is to come. Lift the chalice in a salute to the Moon Mother and take a sip: One for magick. Take another sip: one for power. Take a third sip: one for vision. Put the chalice back on the alter along with the wand. Sit quietly for a few moments before beginning your reading of the cards, runes, scrying, or whatever form you have chosen.
When finished, raise your arms in the air and say this as you close the
right: Remember: The future is not set in stone. It is always in your power to change it for the better. Life is what you make of it.

| Magick Mirror Spell Find or buy a small mirror, no bigger than your hand. One of those old fashioned ones that came with a brush and comb work well. Gather also some water, salt, bowl or cauldron, and a black fabric bag or a piece of cloth. On a Full Moon, gather the ingredients and go outside if weather permits. Light some candles to work by and cast a circle about you. Hold the Mirror in your hand and say: Mirror, Mirror, Starbright Reflect the magick here tonight.
Dip the mirror into a solution of the water and salt and then slowly take
it out. Hold it up to the sky and bring it down to where you can see the
Moon in the glass. Say: Set the mirror upon the ground and allow it to drip-dry. Place it in the black bag or wrap it in the cloth. The Mirror is charged with the powers of the Moon.

| Wishbone Spells To find out which will be the first to marry, two unmarried girls should each take hold of the same wishbone and together break it into two pieces while saying: "Bone I wish the future read; Who shall be the first to wed?" The girl who receives the bigger of the two pieces will walk down the aisle before the other. (This old method of marriage divination is English in origin and dates back to the Middle Ages, and possibly before. Deriving from it is our popular Thanksgiving custom of two persons making a wish while breaking a wishbone apart, with the wish being granted to the one who ends up holding the bigger piece.)
